Overlooking the Peixotto campus of the University of Bordeaux, in the commune of Talence, stands an old convent built in the 1950s at the heart of the Domaine du Haut-Carré. Now transformed into a hub for research dissemination and the promotion of scientific and industrial culture, the Domaine du Haut-Carré hosts scientific conferences and colloquia, award ceremonies, cultural events, and temporary art exhibitions. The building's architecture draws inspiration from the austere style of Cistercian monasteries. The bell tower of the Agora resembles the Romanesque campaniles of Northern Italy (such as the Leaning Tower of Pisa), which are bell towers with arcaded openings. The chapel is further enhanced by 24 authentic stained-glass windows on the theme of travel. These were created by the French master glass artist Gabriel Loire (1904–1996), whose "creations shine worldwide through prestigious commissions," including the Salisbury Cathedral in England and the Bird Tower at the Hakone Museum of Modern Art in Japan. His work also graces the chapel of the Agora at the Haut-Carré.
